Chat Sidebar
See which threads need you at a glance in a messenger-style sidebar with live status, folders, and project colours. Sub-agents and forks fold into their parent, so each task is one row. Attention, project, and section folders sit as tabs or a Telegram-style rail, each with unread badges. Projects get distinct colours you can change, and the + starts a chat in the open project. Search, pinned order, splits, and bb's thread shortcuts all keep working.
Overview
View sourceChat Sidebar replaces bb's sidebar thread list with a chat list. bb's own sidebar rows stay where they are: New thread, plugin pages, and the footer.
What you get
- One row per task. Sub-agents and forks fold into their parent chat. A waiting sub-agent marks the parent as needing you, and the row counts the busy sub-agents. Right-click the row to jump to any of them.
- Status you can read at a glance. Each row shows whether the chat needs you, is working (and on what: a workflow, background agents, a goal, the environment), finished unread, or has an unsent draft. Statuses that other plugins set on a row show up too.
- Folders. All, Attention (waiting, working, or unread), one tab per project in order of use, one tab per bb section, and Archive. Each tab has an unread badge and a status dot. Right-click a tab to mark everything in it as read or to start a new chat there.
- Project colours. Each project gets its own colour on its chats' avatars, from the clearest colours first, so a few projects never end up with near-identical hues. Right-click a project tab, heading, or chat to pick one of 12 colours. The pick is saved in bb and shows on all your devices.
- New chat where you are. The + next to search starts a chat in the open project's folder, or in the open section. Right-click it to pick any project.
- Search. Filter by title, project, branch, or sub-agent title. Enter opens the first match, and the arrow keys move through the list.
- Messenger order. Pinned chats come first in your manual order. Drag them to reorder. After the pins, chats are sorted by latest activity, and each row shows a time label: today's time, Yesterday, a weekday, or a date. Once you scroll down, a button in the corner takes you back to the top.
- Everything bb's own row does. Clicking opens the thread. ⌘-click (Ctrl-click) opens it in a split, and dragging a row into the main area splits too. The jump shortcuts (⌘1…9, next and previous) and the mobile drawer work. The right-click menu can rename, pin, mark read or unread, copy a link, archive, and delete. Double-click a row to rename it in place.
Settings
- Projects: folders, headings in the list (they can stay pinned under the tabs while you scroll), or off.
- Folder layout: tabs above the list, or a narrow rail on the left with an icon and a name per folder. The rail scrolls on its own, and its + lines up with the search bar.
- Row size: comfortable (avatar plus a status line) or compact (one line).
- Section tabs and the Archive tab: on or off.
- Fold sub-agents into their parent: on or off.
- Hide quiet chats after a number of days. They stay one click away, and search and Attention still show them.
- Language: English or Russian. The default follows the system language.
Requirements
bb 0.44 or later. No accounts, keys, or external services: everything stays in bb. To switch back to bb's own list, pick it under Settings → Appearance → Sidebar.
