Get it for macOS

Press Ctrl+F (Cmd+F on Mac) in any bb chat to find words in the conversation, with every match highlighted where it appears. Enter and Shift+Enter step through matches, and the chat scrolls each one clear of the composer, including matches inside bold text, links, and syntax-highlighted code. The count updates while an agent is still replying, without losing your place. Escape closes the bar and puts the cursor back where it was. It searches the messages the chat has loaded, leaves Ctrl+F to the embedded browser and terminals when they have focus, and needs no account or external service.

What you get

  • Ctrl+F (Cmd+F on macOS) opens a small find bar over the chat, the same chord you already use in a browser. Nothing to open in the side panel first.
  • Every match in the chat is highlighted in place, and the current one is highlighted in a stronger color. The bar shows where you are, such as 3/12.
  • Enter jumps to the next match and Shift+Enter to the previous one, wrapping at either end. The chat scrolls so the match sits clear of the find bar and the composer.
  • Matches are found inside bold text, links, and syntax-highlighted code, because the search follows the text you see rather than the markup under it. Matching ignores case and treats the query as plain text.
  • While an agent is still replying, the count updates as new text streams in, and the match you are on stays selected.
  • Escape closes the bar, clears the highlights, and puts the cursor back where it was, usually the composer.

Which chat it searches

The bar opens over the chat you are typing in. With nothing focused, it uses the chat you clicked last, then the main chat of the focused split pane.

Shortcuts it leaves alone

The embedded browser keeps Ctrl/Cmd+F for find in page while it has focus. Terminals, code editors, and open dialogs also keep the chord.

Find in chat is also in the quick palette (Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+P). You can give it another shortcut under Settings → Keyboard.

Limits

It searches what the chat has rendered. Collapsed tool output and older messages that have not loaded yet are not searched until you expand or scroll to them.

Requirements

bb 0.43 or later. No account, external service, or network access. Highlights use the CSS Custom Highlight API (Chrome 105+, Safari 17.2+, Firefox 140+); the bb desktop app supports it.

More from bottlebrushes

Agentic MermaidDraws Mermaid diagrams in chat with outlined boxes, routed edges, and your theme's colors. Renders 15 diagram types, including gantt, pie, mindmap, timeline, and architecture, through the agentic-mermaid library. Git graphs and types it can't draw keep bb's own renderer. Diagrams recolor when you switch between light and dark mode. Relies on bb internals, so a bb update can return diagrams to the stock renderer until the plugin catches up.46Conductor ThemeApplies the Conductor workspace aesthetic across bb with roasted espresso and native black surfaces, warm brown message cards, bone typography, and emerald accents.57GitHub ProjectsCreates and imports GitHub repositories directly from BB's native project picker. Injects dedicated creation and import options into the project dropdown. Automatically initializes private repositories, clones locally, and registers projects in BB with one click. Also provides the bb gh-project CLI and agent skill.20Live MarkdownEdit Markdown right in the side panel, with formatting rendered as you type and saves that change only the characters you typed. Tables stay tables while you edit: click a cell to change its raw Markdown in place, Tab to the next cell, and Tab past the last one to add a row. Every save checks the file's hash first, so a file an agent changed while you typed asks you to keep your version or load the disk version instead of being overwritten. It becomes the opener for .md, .mdx and .markdown files on install unless you already chose one under Settings, and needs bb 0.43 or later with no account or external service.New
