Get it for macOS

See which agent spawned which thread. A sidebar thread list where child threads nest under the thread that started them, at any depth, and a parent folds its subtree into one line that counts each state. Provider subagents (Claude Code Agent calls, Codex subagents) show as a counter on the parent's row with type, state, duration and tokens on hover. Threads group by project or status. Sort globally by last activity, creation date or status, with per-folder overrides; creation-date sorting keeps rows in place as messages arrive. Above them sit Recent Activity, your scheduled Automations and, with the GitHub Folder plugin installed, the pull requests that need you. Drag sections and project folders to reorder them. Reads bb's own thread data on the bb server; nothing leaves the machine.

Overview

View source

A sidebar thread list built around agent work: the threads an agent spawns nest under it, and the subagents it runs inside its own session show on its row.

What you get

  • With the GitHub Folder plugin installed, its pull requests that need you sit at the top: review requests, changes requested, failing checks, conflicts, ready to merge. Snooze and customize change GitHub Folder's own settings. Without that plugin the section is not shown.
  • Automations: each scheduled automation with its status dot and next run. Hover to run, pause or resume it; click to open its last run. It reads bb's own Automations plugin and hides itself when that plugin is off.
  • Recent Activity: the most recently active threads, child threads included, newest first. Show more extends it.
  • Threads grouped by Project, by Status (needs input, error, working, done) or not at all, with Pinned on top. Projects keep a fixed order you set by dragging their headers, or follow recent activity.
  • Sort threads by last activity, creation date or status from the funnel icon beside the Threads heading. Creation date keeps rows in place as messages arrive. Set a global order, override it per folder, or choose Use global setting to restore inheritance. Sort and Group use icons, and their menus stay open while you choose options; click outside or press Escape to close.
  • The Archived toggle shows archived threads in the same grouping and nesting.
  • The top line counts threads that need input, failed or are running.
  • Each child thread sits under the thread that spawned it, at any depth, even in another project. A parent's status dot turns into a chevron on hover; click it to fold the subtree. A folded parent gets a line counting its whole subtree by state. The thread you have open and threads waiting for your input stay visible under the fold.
  • A small icon on each row shows the agent provider the thread runs on.
  • Child threads are ordinary threads: open, message, pin, archive or split them with bb's own menu. Hovering a row swaps its age for Archive and the menu.
  • Cmd+Z or Ctrl+Z brings back the threads you just archived, a parent together with the children archived with it; press again to step further back. It only reaches archives from the last few minutes. In a text field you typed in after archiving, it keeps undoing your text.
  • Provider subagents (Claude Code Agent calls, Codex subagents) are not threads and cannot be messaged. They show as a counter with a status dot on the parent's row; hover it for each one's type, state, duration and tokens.
  • A dot before each title shows the thread's state: blue running, green done, yellow needs input, red error with a Retry button, gray stopped.
  • bb thread-tree list prints a thread's subagents from a terminal.

Arranging the sidebar

Right-click the GitHub, Automations or Recent Activity header to remove it; Sections at the top of the list brings it back. Drag a header, or use Move up and Move down in its menu, to reorder sections. While you drag a section or a project, the blocks fold to their headers, the others slide aside to show where it will land, the list scrolls near its edges, and everything opens back the way it was on drop.

Settings

Settings → Installed plugins → Thread Tree holds the section switches, how many Recent Activity rows show before and after Show more, and switches for the provider icon, the subagent counters and the age label. Fold folders while dragging can be turned off, and Reduce motion stops the folder, reorder and hover animations.

How it works

The list reads bb's own thread data. Subagents come from each thread's event log, read on the bb server; nothing leaves the machine. Folds, grouping and order are kept per client; the settings apply to every client of the bb server.

BatterySee your laptop's charge in bb's sidebar without switching to the menu bar. A battery icon and percentage sit at the right end of the sidebar footer, filled red at 20% or less, yellow up to 50% and green above. A click opens a popup with each device's state and charge, including the phone or tablet you opened bb on when its browser reports a battery. `bb battery status` prints the same reading for terminals and agents. Reads the charge of the machine running the bb server, which must be a Mac; no account or external service.NewInline TerminalRun the commands an agent suggests right under its reply, and have the agent read the result and answer on its own. Every bash, sh, zsh or console code block in a reply gets a Run button that opens a live terminal beneath it, where you can answer prompts, type passwords and press Ctrl-C. When the block finishes, its exit code and output reach the agent as hidden context, so it replies without you pasting anything and the chat gets no extra message. The shell starts in the thread's workspace with your startup files loaded and keeps cd, virtualenvs and variables for follow-up commands. Needs a macOS or Linux machine; no account or external service.NewReveal In FinderOpen the files an agent builds or exports with one click, instead of copying a path out of its reply. Each file or folder the agent hands over shows as a card with an icon, its name, format and size. A click on a file opens bb's preview, and Open in reveals it in Finder or opens it in its default app. A bundled skill tells agents when to hand over files this way. Finder and the default app open on the Mac running the bb server; no account or external service.NewThread SwitcherJump between your recent threads from the keyboard and see at a glance which one needs you. Hold Control and press Tab to step through a row of cards, each with the latest messages of that chat, its project, branch and status; let go to open the selected thread. A thread waiting for your answer shows the question it asked, and threads that need input or failed come first. A thread with subthreads counts how many are still running. The hotkey, the number of cards and the order are settings; no account or external service.New
